2022 IT Skills Demand And Pay Trends Report

Average market value for 663 non-certified tech skills showed continued strength in the third quarter of 2022 following the biggest increase in cash pay premium in 14 years in the beginning of the year. 113 skills increased in value, about the same as in Q2 2022 but only 60 lost value in the quarter compared to 90 in the same quarter.
Extra pay awarded by employers to talented tech professionals for 663 non-certified IT skills---also known as cash pay premiums---showed a modest overall 0.3 percent growth in the third quarter of 2022, about the same as the prior quarter but following a very robust 1.6 percent overall growth in the first quarter. The current average cash pay premium bonus for a single skill is the equivalent of 9.6 percent of base salary.
Average market value for 585 tech certifications decreased slightly in Q3, negating the slight increase the prior quarter but, similar to noncertified tech skills, again following a significant change in Q1 2022 (a 1.2 percent overall loss). The current average cash pay premium for a single IT certification is the equivalent of 6.6 percent of base salary.
