Anyone who has worked in telecoms technology will have seen new tech come and go. In August 2023, Gartner published its hype cycle for emerging technologies. Guess what was the top of the peak of inflated expectations? That's right - generative AI. And anyone familiar with hype cycles will know what comes next - the trough of disillusionment. Looking at the hype cycle, it's forecast that generative AI will reach the 'plateau of productivity' in just 2-5 years.
