BIOS is dead, long live UEFI.

  • UEFI is a modern replacement for BIOS, offering faster boot times, larger hard drive support, and a user interface, while still providing backwards compatibility with older BIOS systems.
  • UEFI behaves similarly to a tiny operating system, offering features like Secure Boot and networking capabilities that were absent in BIOS.

Way back in 2017, Intel announced plans to completely replace BIOS with UEFI on all their chipsets, and the industry quickly followed suit. The classic BIOS is now firmly a relic of the past. But what is UEFI, and how is it different from the BIOS we're all familiar with?
