The Overwhelmed Person's Guide To Google Cloud: Week Of January 15

Google News, Tuesday, January 16th, 2024

A weekly curation of the most helpful blogs, exciting new features, and useful events coming out of Google Cloud.

Three new things to know this week

1: Omni(present) data. AlloyDB Omni lets you run our database engine wherever you want to. We just shipped a new version that offers updated PostgreSQL and pgvector support. And you can use the new Kubernetes Operator to deploy and run it, if that's your jam.

2: You get a target. You get a target. Everyone gets a target. Cloud Deploy just shipped a huge feature that lets you target releases to destinations besides GKE and Cloud Run. Build your own custom target, or extend one of our samples for GitOps, Vertex AI, or Terraform.

3: Dogs in sidecars are hilarious. It's also a good software pattern. I like that Cloud Run added sidecar support in early 2023, and now we're seeing teams take advantage of this feature. Use the new Managed Service for Prometheus sidecar for Cloud Run to extract useful metrics.
