This news release is a summary extract of content from the 1 st Quarter 2024 editions Foote Partners' 2024 IT Skills Demand and Pay Trends Report and 2023 IT Skills and Certification Pay Volatility Index, two market intelligence trend reports updated every 3 months from data contributed by HR departments at 4,314 U.S. and Canadian employers.
Volatility in cash pay premiums for 1,333 IT skills and certifications reported in Foote Partners' IT Skills and Certification Pay Index spiked upwards again from October to December, similar to 2nd quarter 2023 which reached a 3-year volatility high. Highest volatility was recorded in skills and certifications related to Data/Database; Architecture/Project Management/Methodology/Process; Networking; Systems; Applications Development; and Info/Cybersecurity.
Average market value for 704 non-certified IT skills increased slightly in 4Q 2023, with 211 skills changing in value compared to 183 in the prior quarter. Three groups recorded pay gains: Data/Database, Management/Methodology/Process, and Operating Systems skills.
For 629 IT certifications, average market value recorded a larger increase, up 0.7 percent, led by gains in Applications Development & Programming Languages, Data/Database, Systems Administration/Engineering, and Networking & Communications certification categories. 133 certifications changed value compared to only 97 in the prior quarter, with 70 gaining market value versus only 32 rising in 3Q 2023.
