In a recent regulatory filing to the US Securities And Exchange Commission (SEC) , Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, revealed a distressing development: a criminal threat actor attempted to peddle Ticketmaster customer data on the dark web. This revelation underscores the ever-looming threat of cyber breaches in the digital age.
In the notification, Ticketmaster's parent Live Nation Entertainment said it 'identified unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database environment containing Company data' on May 20th, and 'launched an investigation with industry-leading forensic investigators to understand what happened.'
According to reports, the breach, purportedly orchestrated by a hacking group named ShinyHunters, involves sensitive information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and partial credit card details of millions of Ticketmaster customers. The group allegedly demanded $500,000 for the compromised data, sparking fears of potential identity theft and financial fraud among Ticketmaster users.
