Google Adds Quantum-Resistant Digital Signatures to Cloud KMS

DARKReading, Friday, February 21st, 2025

The Cloud Key Management Service is part of Google's new road map for implementing the new NIST-based post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards.

Google revealed its road map for implementing new post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with the addition of quantum-resistant digital signature support to its Cloud Key Management Service (KMS).

Google Cloud KMS, a managed service that has been available since 2017, lets customers create, manage, and verify cryptographic keys throughout Google Cloud and its ecosystem. Cloud KMS also enables the use of hardware security modules (HSMs). The new PQC capability in Cloud KMS is now available in preview as software-based, customer-managed encryption keys (CMEKs).
