5G Adoption Reaches 2.25B, Quadrupling 4G LTE Growth Rate

Newly released data on wireless confirms that the telecommunications industry generated 2.25 billion 5G connections worldwide in 2024, with North America maintaining its leadership position in 5G adoption.
Industry trade group 5G Americas and technology research firm Omdia said in a press release last week that 5G expanded four times faster than 4G LTE did in a similar time period. Another measure of the expansion of mobile ecosystems, they said, is that there were 1.5 wireless connections per person worldwide by the end of 2024, up from one connection per person 10 years ago.
The organizations said they expect the rapid adoption of 5G to persist. They cited forecasts of 8.3 billion 5G connections by 2029, which would represent 59% of all global wireless technologies.
