While companies like Microsoft and Meta are pouring billions into data center expansion, the bigger issue lies in power distribution and infrastructure readiness-not just generation. Baker notes that data centers already consume a significant portion of global electricity, and their carbon footprint is a growing concern. Although tech giants are pursuing net-zero goals, regulations and inconsistent global policies continue to complicate progress.
