WAAP Evolution: From 'Web App and API' to 'Web, API, and AI' Protection

As I dig deeper into our annual research, there are several inescapable conclusions I arrive at, largely driven by the impact of AI on, well, everything.

One of those inescapable conclusions is that it's time for WAAP to shift from 'Web App and API Protection' to 'Web, API, and AI Protection.'

I said what I said.

There are many reasons to make this statement, first and foremost of which is 'web' and 'app' are redundant. While estimates can vary depending on the methodology and time period, several industry sources suggest that roughly 80% of Internet traffic is delivered via HTTP protocols (including both HTTP and HTTPS). For example, the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) reports and similar analyses from content delivery networks like Akamai have consistently indicated that web traffic-predominantly transmitted over HTTP/HTTPS-comprises the vast majority of global Internet traffic.
