While often used interchangeably, the terms 'data center' and 'server farm' have subtle yet critical distinctions in infrastructure and purpose. Find out why.
Is 'data center' just another term for 'server farm'? The short answer is 'more or less.' Both phrases are often used interchangeably to refer to a facility that hosts servers or other IT equipment.
The longer answer, however, is more complicated. From a purist's perspective, not all data centers are server farms, and not all server farms live inside data centers. This is why it's important to understand the nuances separating data centers from server farms.
