Securing Critical Infrastructure: Why OT Requires A Threat-Informed Defense
Fortinet, July 11,2025
The operational technology (OT) environments that underpin our critical infrastructure face an urgent and evolving risk landscape due to increasingly targeted, persistent, and automated cyberthreats.
This was the core focus of Fortinet's recent webinar, 'Threat-Informed Defense for Operational Technology,' featuring insights from Derek Manky, chief security strategist and global VP of threat intelligence at Fortinet, and Richard Springer, senior director of product marketing for OT solutions.
Drawing on the 2025 Fortinet Global Threat Landscape Report, Manky outlined a sobering picture: OT systems are not just collateral damage; they're becoming primary targets. Cybercriminals are using advanced persistent threats (APTs) to home in on industrial networks not simply to steal data but to disrupt critical services, demand ransoms, or embed themselves for future exploitation.
