Fei-Fei Li, the 'Godmother of AI,' told an industry conference that human-centered AI is cost-effective and better than the current models.
When Geoffrey Hinton-the 'godfather of AI'-talks, you listen. When he slashes his forecast for artificial general intelligence (AGI) from 30-50 years to 5-20, you lean forward.
That's what happened at the Ai4 conference last week, where Hinton delivered several of his signature AI doomerisms, including a warning that humanity could lose control over AI.
But the brilliant scientist, now professor emeritus at the University of Toronto and co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2024, also proposed an unconventional solution: Give AI maternal instincts. Build a 'Mother AI.' Create AI systems designed to protect us, like a parent watching over a child.
