LibreOffice's First Big Update For 2026 Has Arrived
How-To Geek, Wednesday, February 4th, 2026
LibreOffice is one of the best alternatives to Microsoft Office and Google Docs, and now it's rolling out a major update. LibreOffice 26.2 has arrived with some new features, compatibility improvements with Microsoft Office, and faster performance.
LibreOffice 26.2 is the first of two big releases planned for 2026, with the next one expected in August. This update arrives as LibreOffice is reaching new heights of popularity, partially from the end of mainstream Windows 10 support from Microsoft, combined with ongoing migrations from US-owned tech products like Google Docs and Microsoft Office. The Document Foundation reported a substantial increase in donations near the end of 2025, and web searches for LibreOffice are also trending upward.
