The enforcement of the AI Basic Act is significant as it represents the world's first full-scale implementation of a national AI framework law. The EU has enacted its own AI Act and in the US, AI regulation remains fragmented, limited largely to state-level initiatives. So against this backdrop, South Korea's move to enforce a comprehensive AI law is seen as a proactive step on the global stage.
