Preparing Enterprise Data Centers For AI Adoption
DataCenter Knowledge, Friday, March 13th, 2026
Enterprises adopting artificial intelligence face challenges distinct from those of hyperscale users in data center capacity and capability planning.
Corporate data center planning strategies tend to get overlooked in headlines about the massive construction boom supporting artificial intelligence adoption. A 2025 McKinsey report forecasts almost $7 trillion in AI-required IT infrastructure spending through 2030, including $3 trillion for data centers and $4 trillion for computing and telecom hardware, roughly doubling worldwide data center capacity by 2030.
Large enterprises perform many IT functions beyond AI, and most enterprises deploy AI differently from hyperscalers such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Oracle, TikTok, Apple, xAI, and OpenAI, which directly affects corporate data center planning.
