Platform Engineering: Why True Scaling Requires Multiple Platforms
Platform Engineering, Thursday, March 26th, 2026
Platform engineering has become the predominant approach for sustainably scaling modern software development and application operations. Yet the discipline is often interpreted too narrowly - reduced to the creation of a single internal developer platform (IDP).
This view is limiting. By equating platform engineering with one monolithic platform, organizations underestimate both the complexity of today's technology landscapes and the organizational demands placed on teams that operate such platforms.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the future of platform engineering is modular, multi-layered and built on multiple specialized platforms that collectively enable DevSecOps at scale.
