Google Targets Aging Windows 10 Pcs With ChromeOS Flex Kit
Techstrong.IT, Tuesday, April 7th, 2026
As Windows 10 nears the end of its extended support cycle, hundreds of millions of older PCs are left without security updates or a clear upgrade path. Google is offering a solution: update these vintage machines to ChromeOS Flex.
As Google promotes it, a new $3 USB-based installation kit developed by Back Market simplifies deployment of ChromeOS Flex. The software itself remains free to download, but the physical kit lowers technical barriers for less experienced users.
Trade-offs for Switching
Google's move is well-timed. Microsoft offers extended security updates for Windows 10 only for a limited period. After that window closes, users without compatible hardware face increasing security risks. Adoption of Windows 11 has progressed more slowly than expected, leaving a sizable population of devices in limbo.
