The Browser Is The Battlefield: Why Security Must Be Where Work Happens

SC Media, Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026

Enterprise browsers must function as security control planes to protect sensitive data and identities in modern cloud-based workplaces.

As organizations increasingly conduct business through web browsers - accessing SaaS applications, cloud documents, and AI tools - the browser has become a critical attack surface requiring enterprise-grade security controls. Regular browsers lack the safeguards needed to prevent data exfiltration, identity misuse, phishing, and malware attacks that exploit the gap between user activity and IT supervision.

Secure enterprise browsers, such as Microsoft Edge for Business, should be treated as control planes that enforce identity-based access policies, validate device health, monitor user activity in real time, and provide granular data-protection policies including DLP capabilities.

By integrating conditional access, threat protection, and centralized monitoring into the browser itself, organizations can reduce their attack surface, enforce consistent security policies, and enable users to work safely in an increasingly AI-driven, cloud-first workplace.
