Introducing IBM Bob: AI Development Partner that Takes Enterprises from AI-Assisted Coding to Production-Ready Software

IBM, April 28,2026

IBM launches Bob, an AI development partner for enterprises that automates the full software development lifecycle with built-in governance and security.

IBM announced the global availability of IBM Bob, an AI-first development partner designed for enterprise software development teams. Bob goes beyond code generation to automate the entire software development lifecycle - from planning and coding to testing, deployment, and modernization - while embedding governance, security controls, and human-in-the-loop oversight.

With over 80,000 IBM employees already using it, users report an average 45% productivity gain, with some teams experiencing up to 70% time savings on specific tasks. The platform uses multi-model orchestration to intelligently route tasks to suitable models based on accuracy, performance, and cost, drawing from frontier LLMs, open source models, and IBM Granite specialized models.

Real-world deployments show significant impact, including Blue Pearl completing a typical 30-day Java upgrade in 3 days and APIS IT migrating complex services in hours rather than weeks.
