Red Hat showcased open source AI and edge computing solutions at NATO's Exercise HEIMDALL in the Arctic.
Red Hat participated in Exercise HEIMDALL, a NATO-organized initiative held in Norway's High North in February 2026, bringing together 13 defense departments and 26 industry partners to innovate in extreme environments.
The exercise demonstrated Red Hat's cloud-to-edge platform capabilities, including intelligent mission planning powered by IBM's Defense AI model, near-edge sensor fusion through Red Hat OpenShift, and far-edge device management with Red Hat Device Edge.
Red Hat's open source, standards-based portfolio enabled secure collaboration across maritime and aerial systems while maintaining operational resilience in rugged, remote locations. The initiative highlighted how software-defined operations allow organizations to scale autonomous systems management and adapt hardware to evolving mission needs without complex infrastructure dependencies.
