77% of IT Managers Say Their AI Agents Are Out of Control - 5 Ways to Rein in Yours
ZDNET, Monday, April 27th, 2026
Most IT managers lack control over AI agents, requiring robust governance strategies.
According to a Rubrik ZeroLabs survey, only 23% of IT managers have complete control over their AI agents, with 77% reporting them as out of control. The unchecked proliferation of AI agents is creating security vulnerabilities and agent sprawl similar to early cloud adoption, as users bypass security controls to quickly deploy unsanctioned applications.
A majority of IT managers anticipate that agent proliferation will outpace security guardrails within six months, and most lack the capability to roll back unintended agent actions. Organizations need to treat agent management as a first-class discipline by implementing post-deployment tracking through observability, audit trails, and consistent governance policies rather than treating it as an afterthought.
