AI Tools Have Made Vulnerability Exploitation Faster and Easier

TechRadar, Thursday, April 30th, 2026

AI coding tools have dramatically reduced the time and skill needed to exploit vulnerabilities, making traditional risk assessment metrics like CVSS outdated.

AI-assisted coding tools have fundamentally changed vulnerability exploitation by removing the skill barrier and time delays that previously protected systems. Where exploit development once required weeks of advanced technical knowledge, AI can now generate working exploit code in hours or minutes based on vulnerability descriptions.

This shift renders traditional CVSS likelihood scoring obsolete, as it was based on assumptions about attacker skill and development time that no longer apply.

Security teams must now focus on whether systems are exposed and properly protected rather than assuming complexity or lack of public exploits provide adequate protection. Organizations need to rethink their risk management strategies and prioritize rapid patching and strong identity controls instead of relying on delays that no longer exist.
