Beyond the Perimeter: Why Identity and Cyber Security are One Single Story

Identity and cyber security must converge as a single discipline to address modern threats in cloud-based, distributed environments.
This article argues that identity and cyber security have historically been treated as separate disciplines but must now be unified as organizational systems become cloud-based and distributed.
Modern fraud prevention requires three connected principles: identity profiling and risk scoring, contextual monitoring, and noise reduction. Zero trust architecture cannot be layered on at the end but requires identity assurance, authorization, and monitoring to operate from a shared model of risk. When secure by design principles are applied alongside zero trust thinking, fraud prevention becomes embedded into services by default rather than wrapped around them.
