Enterprises Are Adopting Agents Faster Than They Can Secure and Govern Them - Experts Warn It's a Disaster Waiting to Happen

Enterprises are rapidly deploying AI agents without adequate security governance, creating new identity risks and control gaps.
According to new research from Ping Identity, AI agents are being deployed faster than organizations can govern them, straining identity systems designed for human interaction and creating significant security gaps.
AI agents operating autonomously across enterprise systems can combine legitimate permissions in unintended ways to bypass controls and avoid traceability, while most IAM strategies remain centered on human users.
Key challenges include lack of visibility in delegation, untraceable agent chains, context leakage across systems, and permission inheritance issues in agent-to-agent interactions. Recent data shows that 97% of organizations lack adequate access controls for AI systems, and security leaders struggle to even identify all agentic AI running in their environments.
