Open Compute Project: Delivering an Open Data Center Ecosystem for AI

AIwire, Wednesday, April 29th, 2026

OCP announces new contributions and alliances to build open, standardized AI data center infrastructure.

The Open Compute Project Foundation announced newly approved contributions and alliances to deliver its Open Data Center Ecosystem for AI vision, addressing critical infrastructure challenges from chip to grid.

The contributions include roadmaps for open data center facilities, next-generation ML infrastructure design principles, low-voltage DC power distribution architectures, energy storage guidelines, and expanded Open Rack specifications for AI clusters.

OCP launched new projects covering data center facilities, AI cluster connectivity with advanced networking standards, and the AI Computing Continuum to extend scalable AI infrastructure beyond hyperscale data centers. New alliances with EPRI, Current/OS, and IOWN Global Forum were formed to accelerate innovation in power systems, DC microgrids, and multi-site computational infrastructure.
