Cloudflare launches Flagship, an edge-native feature flag service built on OpenFeature for sub-millisecond flag evaluation in Workers.
Cloudflare announced the closed beta of Flagship, a new feature flag service integrated into its global edge platform that enables teams to control feature rollouts and run experiments without redeploying code.
Built on the OpenFeature standard, Flagship allows developers to define and evaluate flags directly in Cloudflare Workers with sub-millisecond latency, supporting boolean, string, numeric, and JSON object flag values.
The service includes targeting rules, percentage-based rollouts, and a browser client provider for flag prefetching and caching. Industry experts view this as a commoditization of feature flagging infrastructure, positioning Flagship as a native alternative to third-party platforms like LaunchDarkly and Split.io, particularly beneficial for AI-driven workloads requiring low latency.
