Microsoft's latest AI Diffusion Report reveals that global generative AI adoption among the working-age population has increased to 17.8% in Q1 2026, up from 16.3% in Q4 2025, demonstrating accelerating AI integration into daily work, learning, and creative activities.
Switzerland significantly outperforms the global average with 37.8% adoption, showing that AI is transitioning from experimentation to operational use. Key drivers of this growth include rapid advances in AI-powered development tools and improved local language capabilities, particularly in Asian markets.
However, a widening gap persists between developed economies and regions facing structural barriers including limited infrastructure, connectivity, and digital skills. Microsoft emphasizes that the next phase will require organizations to focus on responsible AI implementation and building collaborative ecosystems to translate momentum into tangible impact at scale.
