IBM Study: CEOs are Reshaping C-suite Roles for the AI Era

IBM, Monday, May 4th, 2026

IBM survey of 2,000 CEOs finds 76% of organizations now have a Chief AI Officer, up from 26% a year ago.

An IBM Institute for Business Value study surveyed 2,000 CEOs globally and found that organizations are rapidly restructuring C-suite roles to adapt to accelerating AI adoption. Key findings show that 76% of organizations now have a Chief AI Officer (up from 26% in 2025), 64% of CEOs are comfortable making major strategic decisions based on AI input, and 59% expect the CHRO's influence to increase.

The study emphasizes that AI success depends more on people's adoption and organizational redesign than on technology alone, with organizations that redesigned five core business areas being four times more likely to deliver on business objectives.
