Warp Rethinks Agentic Open Source Development

Techstrong.ai, Monday, May 4th, 2026

Warp uses AI agents to manage open source development, automating code review and maintenance tasks.

Warp, a Denver-based company, has open sourced its Rust-based terminal emulator and reimagined open source development using AI agents as primary maintainers. The company built over 6,700 agents and automated systems to handle code contributions, with approximately 60% of merged pull requests now managed by Oz, Warp's proprietary orchestration engine.

OpenAI supports this initiative by providing token credits, allowing Warp to refine agentic engineering practices at scale. This approach aims to lower barriers to contribution by allowing users to suggest features or report bugs that agents can implement, representing a new vision for how software will be built in the future.
