A New Way to Make AI Actually Work in the Real World

IBM, Thursday, May 14th, 2026

IBM launches Forward Deployed Units (FDUs), small senior teams combining human experts with AI agents to rapidly deploy enterprise AI solutions.

IBM Consulting announced a new delivery model called Forward Deployed Units (FDUs) designed to accelerate enterprise AI deployment by combining small teams of senior specialists with digital AI agents. Traditional delivery models built on scaling labor are insufficient for the AI era, where success depends on operating models that effectively coordinate agents, enforce governance, and deliver measurable business results.

FDUs, already working with clients like Riyadh Air, Nestle, and Pearson, collapse the traditional separation between strategy and execution by having the same team design and build solutions while maintaining accountability for real business outcomes. The model emphasizes continuous execution rather than one-time projects, with client teams working alongside practitioners to build lasting internal capability.

IBM supports FDUs through IBM Consulting Advantage, an AI-powered delivery platform with reusable assets and industry accelerators, creating a system that combines senior talent, technical expertise, and platform capabilities to turn AI ambition into measurable outcomes.
