According to AI.cc's 2026 AI API Infrastructure Report analyzing 2.4 billion API calls, open-source and open-weight AI models have rapidly captured 38% of enterprise token volume, up from 11% a year earlier.
Enterprise AI token costs plummeted 67% year-over-year, falling from $18.40 per million tokens in Q1 2025 to $6.07 in Q1 2026, driven by open-source pricing disruption, multi-model routing, and aggregation-scale pricing.
Enterprises increased average model usage from 2.1 to 4.7 models per account, with multi-model deployment now being the default architecture across 64% of enterprise accounts. Companies fully implementing tiered intelligence stack architectures achieved median costs of $2.31 per million tokens, representing an 87.4% reduction compared to frontier-only deployments.
