Red Hat Embraces MCP to Enable AI Agents to Automate IT Operations

Techstrong IT, Monday, May 11th, 2026

Red Hat integrates Model Context Protocol servers into RHEL and automation platforms to enable AI agents in IT operations.

Red Hat is previewing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers embedded in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Red Hat Satellite, and Red Hat Lightspeed to simplify how AI agents invoke these platforms within natural-language workflows. The company is also releasing containerized RHEL editions, adding post-quantum cryptography support, and expanding its CrowdStrike partnership for enhanced cybersecurity.

Additionally, Red Hat is providing both early access to new technologies and extended support for OS releases, allowing IT teams to balance their need for stable systems with access to latest capabilities.

While the impact of AI on IT operations remains uncertain, agentic AI promises to automate manual IT tasks through natural language commands, though human verification and understanding of automated processes remain critical.
