Iran's Internet Is Partially Restored, Cloudflare Radar Data Shows
Cloudflare, Wednesday, May 27th, 2026
Iran's Internet shows signs of partial restoration after nearly three months of shutdown following military strikes.
Iran's vice president announced on May 26 that Internet access had begun to be restored after being cut off for almost three months following U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28. Cloudflare Radar data confirms the partial restoration, with traffic spiking to approximately 15 times the previous week's levels starting at 11:00 UTC on May 26, though it remains at only 40% of pre-shutdown levels.
The majority of restored traffic originates from Tehran through major Internet providers including TCI, IranCell, RighTel, and MCCI, as evidenced by increased DNS queries and bytes transferred across Cloudflare's network. However, IPv6 address space announcements remain effectively zero despite the IPv4 restoration, suggesting the shutdown was achieved through application filtering or whitelisting rather than removing routing announcements.
Network activity in the coming days will determine whether these traffic increases will return to pre-shutdown baselines, though brief recovery periods demonstrated in January show changes could be temporary.
