Why Google Could Be the First Company to Build AGI
Memeburn, Wednesday, May 27th, 2026
Google is quietly assembling a complete AGI stack with custom silicon, planetary-scale data, and Nobel Prize-winning research.
Google is uniquely positioned to build AGI through complete vertical integration across custom Tensor Processing Units, an unmatched data ecosystem spanning Search, YouTube, Maps, and Android, and DeepMind's groundbreaking research in protein folding and mathematical reasoning.
The company's 7th-generation Ironwood TPU offers a tenfold performance leap, while the 8th-generation split-architecture chip is already in development. Co-founder Sergey Brin publicly declared that Google intends Gemini to become 'the very first AGI' by around 2030, backed by strategic talent acquisitions like bringing back Transformer co-architect Noam Shazeer.
Unlike competitors who depend on Nvidia GPUs and lack comparable data assets, Google controls every layer of the AGI stack simultaneously, though execution risks and definitional ambiguities around AGI remain.
