IBM Commits More Than $10 Billion to Quantum Computing, Funding Its Roadmap from Today's Leading Systems to the World's First Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computers
IBM, Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026
IBM announces a $10 billion five-year investment in quantum computing to advance fault-tolerant systems and maintain U.S. quantum leadership.
IBM has committed over $10 billion for quantum computing development over the next five years, spanning R&D, manufacturing, M&A, and ecosystem partnerships. The investment aims to accelerate IBM's roadmap toward delivering the world's first large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer in 2029.
IBM currently operates the world's largest fleet of over 90 quantum computers deployed globally and has signed more than $1.1 billion in client contracts since 2017. The company plans to launch Anderon, a quantum wafer foundry, with $1 billion in IBM funding, and expects its partners to demonstrate quantum advantage in 2026.
