Build the Interoperable Lakehouse: Agency Over Your Data
Snowflake, Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026
Snowflake launches Interoperable Lakehouse built on Apache Iceberg and Polaris to enable data governance without vendor lock-in.
Snowflake has released its Interoperable Lakehouse, a new architecture built on Apache Iceberg v3, Apache Polaris, and Open Semantic Interchange (OSI) to help organizations govern and act on data across multiple systems without copying or migration.
The platform introduces Snowflake Storage for Apache Iceberg tables, Zero-Copy Integrations with enterprise systems like SAP and Salesforce, and Horizon Context for unified business definitions across databases and BI tools.
Key features include Apache Iceberg v3 support for semi-structured data and geospatial analytics, Parquet Direct for querying existing Parquet files, and Agentic Queries for natural language access across data sources.
The solution aims to reduce architectural costs, eliminate data fragmentation, and provide organizations with agency over their data through a single governed copy that works with any Iceberg-compatible engine.
