Snowflake Pioneers Open Framework for Interoperable Data & AI

Snowflake, Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026

Snowflake announces new capabilities enabling seamless data access and governance across systems with Apache Iceberg support.

Snowflake unveiled new interoperability features at Snowflake Summit 2026 that enable enterprises to work on a single, governed copy of data across Snowflake, external lakes, and open systems without duplication or movement.

The announcement includes general availability of Apache Iceberg v3 support, Snowflake Storage for Apache Iceberg Tables, and Horizon Catalog powered by Apache Polaris for bi-directional interoperability.

These capabilities provide organizations with a unified foundation for data and AI, eliminating data fragmentation and enabling both users and AI agents to securely discover, govern, and access their full business context. Companies like Affirm, Indeed, NTT DOCOMO, and Samsung Ads are already leveraging these capabilities to simplify their data architectures.
