Nvidia launches RTX Spark, a new PC chip designed to run AI tasks locally on laptops and desktops instead of relying on cloud services.
Nvidia has unveiled RTX Spark, a new PC chip announced at Computex that brings AI processing directly to laptops and desktop computers, reducing dependence on cloud-based AI services. The chip combines CPU, GPU, and AI acceleration in one system-on-chip design, enabling local processing of tasks like image generation, document search, video editing, and coding assistance with faster speeds and improved privacy.
This move positions Nvidia in direct competition with Intel, AMD, Apple, and Qualcomm in the consumer PC market, while leveraging its existing strengths in gaming, graphics, and creative software. The rollout depends on Microsoft's software support for Windows Arm-based compatibility and could benefit students, creators, developers, and businesses in markets like South Africa where cloud connectivity and costs are concerns. Devices using RTX Spark are expected to launch in late 2026 from manufacturers including Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and HP.
