IBM Research has appointed Subhash Khot, a world-leading theoretical computer scientist and mathematician, as senior mathematician to strengthen the company's foundational research efforts. Khot is renowned for his work on the Unique Games Conjecture, which has profoundly influenced
computational complexity and approximation algorithms, and has received numerous prestigious honors including the Alan T. Waterman Award, IMU Abacus Medal, and MacArthur Fellowship.
His appointment reflects IBM's commitment to advancing the theoretical underpinnings of computing as it enters a new era shaped by AI, quantum computing, and novel hardware architectures. IBM's leadership in quantum computing and the depth of its research talent were key factors in attracting Khot from his position at New York University's Courant Institute.
