Survey Surfaces Pervasive Adoption of AI Across SDLC

DevOps.com, Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026

A Tricentis survey finds AI is pervasive across the SDLC but is driving tool sprawl, untested code, and major losses.

A Tricentis survey of 2,501 professionals finds AI and automation adoption is now pervasive across the software development lifecycle, with 53% of organizations managing between six and ten AI or automation tools. The rush to ship AI-generated code is fueling tool sprawl, security risks, and up to $5M in annual losses for 20% of organizations.

Notably, 60% admit their developers regularly ship untested code into production, and Tricentis VP David Colwell warns the growing volume of untested AI-generated code will degrade application quality over time. On governance, only 35% feel fully prepared to govern AI agents, with security concerns (27%) and regulatory/compliance requirements (22%) cited as the two biggest blockers to adoption.
