Intel Launches Xeon 6 CPU, Pitches It for Agentic AI Boom

Data Center Dynamics, Monday, June 1st, 2026

Intel launched Xeon 6+ CPUs on its 18A process, pitching them as the control plane for agentic AI workloads.

DataCenterDynamics reports that Intel announced its Xeon 6+ processors on June 1, 2026, extending the Xeon 6 family with up to 288 Efficient-cores and marking the first data center CPU built on Intel's 18A process.

Intel claims up to 2.5x more performance than the prior generation and up to 45% better performance per thread per watt versus competitors, positioning the chips for cloud-native, network-intensive, and agentic AI-driven workloads.

Intel argues that as AI becomes more agentic the bottlenecks shift to orchestration, concurrency, and data movement, keeping the CPU as the control plane for AI infrastructure. The launch was paired with an expanded 800 Series Ethernet portfolio, including E835 controllers supporting up to 200GbE, with systems coming from ASUS, Dell, Ericsson, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro.
