A county IT staffer called to assist a police raid discovers no computers were needed after a tense standoff.
A tech support worker at a county sheriff's office was abruptly summoned by a Major to assist with an unspecified raid operation.
The staffer was driven at high speed to an active scene where tactical vehicles and armed personnel assembled, then left anxiously waiting in a vehicle with instructions not to leave.
After about 20 minutes, the Major returned and explained the operation had concluded without requiring any technical assistance, saying things had moved faster than expected.
The relieved technician later joined officers for lunch and reflected on the danger he had narrowly experienced. The story was submitted to The Register's 'On Call' column of reader-contributed tech support tales.
