The New York Jets hired their first chief data and analytics officer to apply AI across football and business operations.
The New York Jets have hired data executive Iwao Fusillo as their first chief data and analytics officer to leverage AI for better decision-making across football operations and business functions.
Fusillo, formerly of American Express, General Motors, and the NFL, aims to build what he calls the premier AI-driven decision-making infrastructure in professional sports.
The team is already using AI to analyze draft prospects' medical reports, evaluate talent, and optimize fan experiences via concessions and crowd-flow data.
Fusillo argues that advances in storage, computing power, and recognition of data's value have converged to make AI transformative in sports. The integrated approach spans on-field performance, fan engagement, and revenue generation.
