Apple's move to shift new Hide My Email aliases to a @private.icloud.com domain makes anonymous signups identifiable.
Bitdefender reports Apple is transitioning newly generated Hide My Email aliases to the @private.icloud.com domain, departing from traditional @icloud.com addresses that offered anonymity.
The feature's strength previously came from being indistinguishable from standard iCloud accounts, letting users shield personal addresses when signing up for services. By making the domain change transparent, websites can now readily reject these masked addresses, diminishing the privacy protection. Existing aliases keep working, but the change marks a significant shift in how the tool operates.
