Most CISOs Report Pressure to Bury Bad Security News

Dark Reading, Monday, June 15th, 2026

A Checkmarx report finds 95% of CISOs feel pressured to suppress or delay compliance-related security findings.

Dark Reading (by Arielle Waldman) reports on a Checkmarx study, "The Future of Application Security in the Era of AI," which found that 95% of CISOs feel pressured to suppress or delay compliance-related security findings.

Pressure comes from multiple sources including the board, public relations, and product and sales teams, driven by competing business priorities and expectations to do more with fewer resources. Security investments are viewed as cost while the risks they prevent are hard to quantify until an incident occurs, leaving CISOs torn between minimizing panic and promoting transparency.

The article recommends including CISOs in more business strategy discussions alongside other C-suite leaders to alleviate this pressure.
