Discover 2026: HPE Bets on Hybrid Quantum-Supercomputing Architectures

Data Center Knowledge, Monday, June 15th, 2026

HPE expands partnerships with eight quantum companies to integrate quantum processors into supercomputing environments.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is advancing its vision of future computing by combining supercomputers, AI accelerators, and quantum processors through expanded collaborations with companies including Intel, Quantinuum, and Rigetti.

Rather than backing a single quantum architecture, HPE is pursuing multiple approaches - neutral atom, ion trap, superconducting, and silicon spin qubit technologies - suggesting hardware diversity will be permanent.

Industry analysts note practical quantum computing will likely emerge through hybrid systems where classical supercomputers handle simulation and data prep while quantum processors tackle specialized workloads.

The primary challenge isn't quantum hardware itself but supporting infrastructure: ultra-low latency interconnects, modified HPC schedulers, and solutions for cryogenics, power management, and error correction.
