The Server Boom Balances Price Increases Against Chip Shortages

The Next Platform, Wednesday, June 17th, 2026

Rising component costs offset supply constraints, keeping server market growth steady despite GPU and XPU shortages.

The global server market reached $122.62 billion in Q1 2026, up 30.4% year-over-year but down only 2.1% sequentially-remarkably stable versus historical seasonal declines.

Price increases for CPUs, GPUs, DRAM, and storage largely compensated for constrained supplies and excessive demand. GPU-accelerated systems dominated at 56.2% of revenues ($68.9 billion), while emerging XPU systems captured 13.9% ($17.1 billion), together representing 70.2% of total server revenues.

Traditional X86 systems declined to 52.1% share as non-X86 architectures, including hyperscaler Arm processors, gained ground at 47.1%.
