Non-x86 Servers Now Nearly Half the Market, IDC Says
The Register, Tuesday, June 16th, 2026
Non-x86 server revenue surged 107% year-over-year to claim 47.9% of the market, driven by AI infrastructure demand.
According to IDC's Q1 2026 server tracker, non-x86 servers generated $58.7 billion in revenue, nearly matching the $63.9 billion from x86 systems, reflecting soaring investment in AI infrastructure, particularly NVIDIA Arm-based systems.
The boom creates a stark divide: while hyperscalers fuel accelerated server sales, conventional datacenter equipment faces supply constraints.
Memory chipmakers prioritize high-margin AI components, starving other segments of DRAM and NAND flash. IDC expects supply normalization beginning in 2027, with continued strong demand from emerging workloads like agentic applications and physical AI systems.
