When 'Sovereign' Becomes Strategic: What Organizations Actually Want From Digital Sovereignty

Broadcom, Monday, June 22nd, 2026

IDC analysis for Broadcom finds organizations want substance, portability, and verifiable control from digital sovereignty, not just labels.

In a sponsored IDC piece, analyst Rahiel Nasir draws on a survey of 600 organizations across 15 countries to examine what enterprises actually want from digital sovereignty.

More than half already use sovereign cloud and a third plan to adopt within 12 months, with 72% reporting increased interest over the prior six months.

Buyers prioritize data privacy and security alongside compliance, vendor risk management, and geopolitical resilience, and 42% already use sovereign cloud for AI workloads.

Cost and complexity remain the main barriers. The article argues sovereignty as a label is insufficient; organizations seek verifiable control, data portability, and exit rights rather than full isolation.
